The Rappers Beefing Ain’t The Problem - It’s Us
I’m typing this at 3:45 in the AM waiting on my Mad Men episode to download and I see two rappers going at it on Twitter. Since I’m not following either of them, I happen to become aware of what’s going on via retweets from everyone on my damn timeline.
I took a shot at one of these rappers in a previous tweet. I did that because he’s a grown man who is arguing with a kid and he gets in virtual arguments every other week now.
That’s besides the point however. The big problem I see now is that it is GROWN people hyping this “spout” at 3 in the morning and I’m certain they will continue to hype it for the rest of the day. Watching this happen real-time has allowed me to recognize that “celebrities” having issues with each other isn’t the problem, its US.
The issue with these two rappers beefing is that their fans are completely against each other. And that is one of the many factors as to why urban record sales have suffered so much lately.
There can be a valid case made that one of these rapper’s audience (s) is under 22 and that the other’s is above 25. That age gap doesn’t seem huge but let’s take a 16 year old and a 30 year old. They think completely different, and express their thoughts in unique ways as well. Being honest, the 16 year old probably has a more committed group of supporters as well, simply because 16 year olds don’t have that much to do.
So, why are we the problem? Because a lot of US are alleged hip hop analysts or taste-makers and we think our opinion is be all, end all and its not. We’re doing more separating while a new generation is uniting. Against us. Or y’all. I don’t fall into that latter age category
