Your Life Ain’t That Bad: Roddy White

Athletes talk mess before anticipated games. It’s a tactic used to get a competitive advantage at time.

Atlanta Falcons star receiver Roddy White tried to utilize this skill last week. He blasted the Saints fans via social networks, simultaneously disrespecting the defending Champions.

Did it work? Well, the Saints played a unimpressive game, but so did the Falcons.

Roddy White scored a touchdown, which means he performed, but he didn’t will his team to victory, which is what he insinuated he would.

And now he has to live for the next six days at least, being mocked and scorned from thousands of people he probably never met.

When you talk all types of trash before you lose that next pick up game of basketball, you’ll only hear it from the cats playing against you.

See, Your Life Ain’t That Bad

You not ON. Stop hating on those who ARE

Yo. Soulja Boy sold 11,000 physical copies last week of his recent album “The Deandre Way”. What does this mean?

I don’t know.

I’m not going to speculate.

I won’t sit here and let artists who trying to get deals hate though.

At the end of the day, Soulja Boy has a deal and has sold more records than some of y’all ever will. How you rappers who are searching for a deal continue to slander someone who already has one is beyond me. That’s your PEER. Keep your personal feelings aside because all you’re doing is alienating that artists fans who may one day be your fans.

Fact of the matter is he has a deal. He’s headlining concerts. He has songs on the radio and gets paid to perform. What are you doing to get there?

This brief post was inspired by the hate being levied towards my phone and mentions because of Soulja Boy’s first week sales.

Chill. You might just freeze your opportunity.

Keeping a good attitude in awful situations

In my morning rotation, I’ve been listening to a God Awful Morning Show. A show where the talent is carrying it in totality. And the producer is putting together some trash.

Through it all though, I’m going to just sit back and smile until my time comes

Kanye got 5 mics. And You care. You Really Care

Yesterday, Kanye West was given his first 5 mic review from the legendary Source Magazine for his “My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy” album. Personal opinion on the album aside, I believe this was a great moment for hip hop and Kanye.

For the industry, this gives hope to all the urban artists who have struggled in finding themselves musically. There is a growing thought that a artist, more specifically rapper, has to talk about certain things to be successful. It is an idea that still proves itself correct in certain instances, such as my field, radio.

Nevertheless, this is a WIN for hip hop. Kanye took a creative approach (less extreme than his non-mentionable last album fortunately) and WON. He’s gotten the applause from his fans and critics aside, something he has worked extremely hard for. With the personal struggles he’s had as of late, this is a vindication for Kanye.

I’ve already heard certain individuals try to downplay it and I am totally against that. Celebrate it, genuinely congratulate Ye. This was a big moment and you know you care about the benefits that will come with it.

Dear Spiteful Cavs Fans: Grow Up

To Whom It May Concern,

Today will more than likely be unlike any in NBA history. Yes, players have left teams under stressful circumstances before, but we have never seen the amount of pure hate aimed at any athlete.

And what is most disturbing is the wide opinion that the Cavs (ownership and fans included) have a RIGHT to spew these excessive amounts of venom at Lebron. Let’s look at the FACTS. Lebron’s contract was up. Since his contract was up, he was technically not a member of the Cleveland Cavaliers. Therefore, he had the freedom to go wherever he wanted. No, he didn’t inform the Cavs he wasn’t returning. Why didn’t Cavs management have a back up plan anyway? He owed them nothing. He performed his job to their liking and decided he wanted to go perform his job in South Beach.

Put yourself in a position similar to Lebron’s. Your contract with your current company has run out. You have several offers for a new place of employment. You’re not going to tell your job you’re not coming back before you actually accept another job offer, are you? NO. So, what reason besides extreme immaturity are Cavs fans so digusted with Lebron that there is a wide spread notion that his life may be in danger tonight.

Relax and chill. Then grow up, and focus on being the best you YOU can be.

Its December, Watch Bron Turn It Up

I’ve been using the excuse “It’s November” too often for the past month. I will confess to that. It is still early in the NBA season, and the Miami Heat, more specifically, LeBron have underperformed.

The hate aimed at me throughout these growing pains has been tremendous. Almost to a point that I’ve wanted to remove myself from cyberspace until April when I’m certain LeBron and the Heat will be riding a ill wave of momentum to their march to the NBA Finals.

That is all I want you all to focus on at this point. The end game. LeBron doesn’t have to win an MVP this season. We already know he’s the best individual player int the league. The goal now is the Finals MVP trophy after they beat the Lakers in 5. Its going to happen, and you’ll see the beginning of it tonight.

Monday, when Bron and the Heat demolished the Wizards, we saw signs. The team has more hate against them than ever at this point. LeBron is being painted unfairly as a childish villain. He turned it up. He and Spoelstra ironed out their differences. Wade understands his place.

Tonight, when the Heat lay waste to the Detroit Pistons, and prepare for the most anticipated game in Cleveland Cavaliers history tomorrow, you will see it. The King is back, and ready to shut all of you up. Turn it up, Bron. I know I have.

Its not cool when you try NOT to be cool

A couple of days ago, I was put on to this artist named Tyler, The Creator. I didn’t find any of his lyrics particularly mind boggling…at first. Then, I heard him mention something about rape. Like, real rape b. Outside of me mentally hitting him with a Chill, I continued to listen to some more of his music. Me, being a visual guy, I ventured over to youtube.

I ran into this video

The beat is decent, the message ain’t for me, and that video was akward. But what really caught me was when I continued to search homey’s videos. Some of the videos are audio with picture attached. My dude has a pentagram on his head in one of the pictures.

CHILL!!!

I do not intend on forcing my religious beliefs on anyone, nor do I want to make a complete assessment of this dude before I do all the research, but what I can do is respond to his whole m.o.

His twitter is @fucktyler and I started following him recently. He disrespected his fans a little while ago, in addition to naturally disrespecting some females earlier in the day. That can’t be a winning gameplan. I heard someone recently compare him to Lil B. I take offense to that, as Lil B may be able to flow as well as Tyler but he doesn’t disrespect his fans. That’s the bread and butter homey. In no universe, this or another, will people accept getting disrespected for sport.

Then again, maybe “Fuck you” is the new “What up”

Kanye West is CRAZY. That’s NOT cool

Yesterday, a video was released of Kanye setting up and hosting another performance on location in the “spur of the moment” as Kanye stood up on a plane and kicked a show.

That sounds DOPE right? Not unless we talking Kid Cudi style.

This is the most recent stunt like this Kanye has pulled. Prior to the release of a certain movie, Kanye rapped in a certain social network’s offices in which he coincidentally got an awful record placed on the commercial leading up to the release of one of the most important movies of this generation.

YES, I’m suggesting Kanye is rapping and hopping around in public for marketing purposes and placements.

But he doesn’t have to do that. He’s frickin’ Kanye West. But he thinks he has to do this: because he’s CRAZY.

I don’t mean like he’s a genius either, I mean as if he needs to see a doctor. He’s known for having random non sensible outbursts in public. The urban and pop media makes excuses for his behaviors as if its part of his genius, but I don’t buy it. This guy says stuff that makes no sense. He kicks knowledge that don’t add up. He took one Elementary Acting course during a brief stint in college and decided he knew how to make an abstract film that shows more inner struggle than actual artistic ingenuity.

I knew a guy in high school who used to randomly stand up and rap in a Jamaican accent in the lunchroom every other day.  We got him sent to the school counselor. Kanye is walking around in belly tops, he constantly changes hair styles, and he wants to be a bird. A real bird fam. Get him help, and stop supporting mental illness

Don’t Emulate, Initiate

I just walked in from seeing the Social Network. The movie deserves every accolade it will receive as it is well scripted, acted, and directed. This is not a movie review however, as it serves more as an overview.

After seeing the film, most of you will leave the theater with 1 of 2 feelings. You will be excited about the many new ideas floating in your head. Another portion of you will feel disappointed in what you did or have not accomplished. These feelings may fluctuate as I have felt both in less than an hour.

The story of Mark Zuckerberg is inspiring and amazing, yet so many people will act on the inspiration they will lose focus of the amazing thing within themselves. Mark was destined to create Facebook; you are destined to do what YOU are destined to do.

This EVENT better be life changing

Tonight, NBC kicks off a new season of fall programming. The big new entry they have is a show called The Event.

Based on limited commercials, the show appears to be 24 meets Flash Forward; the latter striking a sore spot within my frontal lobe as Flash Forward utilized science as a useful yet violent authority and this show appears to follow suit.

Therefore, The Event will fail me. I expect it to as it probably means too much. When a series has too much vital information, it is often forced into conclusions as audiences pay less attention than any other point in history. If LOST were to premiere today, it would not last three seasons. We don’t allow series to develop.

Nevertheless, I hope this series isn’t forced into an early grave. Its predecessor (in my opinion) Flash Forward was but remained true to itself as it ended without ending…in hopes it could continue one day. The exact opposite would be failed NBC drama Persons Unknown. It ended abruptly and went out Point Pleasant style.

Please allow me to wonder, study and enjoy you The Event. I want to talk about you not just tomorrow or a season or two, but I want us to go years together.

It can happen, at least I hope so
